What’s New April 2002

SHOW ACTIVITY: It is blue bonnet time in Texas and the sides of the roadways are glimmering with their brilliant shade of blue.  Just glimpsing them as we pass enroute tour next show helps the miles fly past and adds a bit of magic to our travels. Our two shows in March were so outstanding that we found ourselves scrambling to stay ahead.  The Dallas Safari Club show, in addition to its strong attendance, provided me with a rare opportunity.  The legendary Gen. Chuck Yeager (AF Ret.) who is known for first breaking the sound barrier came to my booth to sign my son’s copy of his autobiography.  Holding a treasured place in his library, it will now hold even greater significance since his near-tragic incident flying over the Indian Ocean. The Safari Club International Show in Las Vegas lived up to all its advance billing.  Reconnecting with collectors from all over the United States, as well as internationally, this has become an annual reunion for me.  My thanks to all my friends and collectors who searched me out in this huge event of over 1,200 exhibitors.  It reconfirms my strong conviction that the personal contact with each of you is vital to my art. Additionally, being surrounded by the accents and items imported from Africa only served to heighten my anticipation for my upcoming safari.  Eleven months and counting! ART: New Release: My Grizzly Bear is now available in print.  The “naming contest” was great fun, with over 40 creative names being suggested at our last two shows. Congratulations to Nan Riley of Blanchard, MI for coming up with the name, “SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY”.  Nan, who was in attendance at SCI in Las Vegas, will receive a free print, and a big thank you.  The Bear is Limited Giclée Edition of 100 S/N priced at $110 and 10 Artist’s Proofs at $130.  Judging from interest and comments at the last two shows, this will be an excellent piece. Underway: I am currently working on a piece featuring two Cape Buffalo.  My next piece will take me back once again to Texas Longhorns. APRIL SHOW: The Kansas City Indian and Southwestern Art Show will be at Overland Park International Trade Center in Overland Park, KS on April 5,6 and 7.  We look forward to seeing the many new friends we made at this show last year.  Show hours are: Friday, 4pm – 9pm; Saturday, 10am – 8pm; Sunday, 10am – 6pm. Best Wishes,  Sherry
